Hi everyone! As summer gets underway, I have had to restructure some of my Zumba classes to be able to accommodate my children’s summer schedules. However, I still have to work out and stay healthy in order to keep up with them! Therefore, I am trying to come up with some kind of a compromise so that I can still have the best of both worlds. 🙂
Right now, I am filling in for Christy L. at First Baptist (Wetumpka) on Monday nights. I am also still going strong with my 6:15 class every Thursday at Rumbling Waters Gym in Wetumpka.
So what’s the deal with Santuck?? I will be traveling on business for a week, and the following week Santuck will be using the gym for VBS. So we will be forced to cancel Zumba on both Tuesday 6/12 and Tuesday 6/19. Depending on what happens after that… I’m not sure if I will be able to continue teaching the class. There are some things pending that may alter my schedule significantly. But there is also a possibility that I might just have to rearrange my other classes so that I can teach at Santuck on a Thursday evening. We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out. I’ll keep you posted… I just like to give as much advance notice as possible!
In the meantime, Monday and Thursday classes will continue as scheduled! Y’all have been great, and I feel truly blessed and privileged to be able to see your happy, smiling faces every week in my Zumba classes! I promise to post here and on my Facebook page just as soon as I know if/when/how my schedule may change in the future. In the meantime, be blessed!!! ZUMBAAAA!!!!
The website is finally updated with the latest class times and locations! I have also updated my YouTube Channel with more songs from my Zumba classes– see link under “Media”. (Sorry, but I could not find, er… “appropriate” versions of all of the songs (lol), and some I could not find at all.) I will strive to update the site as regularly as I did over the summer, so please check back here often for the latest Zumba news and information. Tell your friends about Zumba with Anne-Marie!!! ZUMBA LOVE!!!!!
Our first class begins tonight, 12/22, at Rumbling Waters Gym! The gym is located at 223 Hill St., Wetumpka (in historic downtown)! Please note that the class begins at 6:00 and not at 6:30!
The cost is $5.00 per class, $3.00 for gym members. Interested in membership? Ask Jamie about the Zumba Special Rate!
Child care is currently unavailable, but we will have childcare beginning sometime in January. Anyone age 8 & up is welcome to participate! 🙂
I hope to see you there, or at Santuck’s free class on Tuesday! (No class Monday night!)
Wow, it’s been three weeks since I’ve updated my blog! Where has the time gone?? I have been so busy listening to music, practicing choreography, updating our YouTube page, and chatting away on Facebook that our poor website has been neglected. Well, I’m happy to say that it has now been updated with all of my latest Zumba class information and upcoming events!
1. The school supply drive was a HUGE success! A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who donated supplies to the children of Elmore County! Even if you were unable to donate, the children, teachers, and public school system in general still desperately need our prayers! Our mission continues!!!
2. I have added a page for testimonials! I have been hearing such wonderful things from my Zumba class participants, and I’d love to share your comments and feedback with others! From weight loss & health improvements, to improved moods & energy levels, the feedback from our Zumba class has been AMAZING!!! If you have a testimonial that you would like to share, please click on the “Testimonials” tab (above) and share some Zumba Love!!
3. A NEW CLASS has started at First Baptist Church in Wetumpka! (See “Class Schedule” for details.) There were 33 participants in our debut class on Monday, August 15th! Yippee! Thanks again to my friends from Santuck who came over to FBC to party with us! As always, it was a blast!! I have a feeling that I will be adding more classes SOON!!
4. RUMOR PATROL: Allow me to set the record straight: We are still having Zumba at Santuck, two nights per week for the forseeable future! (Except on 8/25… see below. LOL) We were originally supposed to switch to one night a week, but I don’t know if/when that will happen. I am still unsure if the Fit 4 Christ class will start back up or not. (The Santuck Health & Wellness Ministry was kind enough to allow me to borrow the F4C time slot for the summer, while F4C took a break.) But no matter what, I am fully committed to continuing this Zumba ministry for my community and church family by hosting a FREE class, at least once a week! ZUMBAAA!!!!
5. UPCOMING EVENTS: I will be participating in two local Zumba events next week! The first is my ZUMBA FIESTA at Skate Zone 2000! (See “Events” for details.) This ONE-TIME class is designed to introduce newbies to the fun (and hilarity) of a Zumba class with Anne-Marie! The cost is $5.00 per person and the proceeds will help support the other free/reduced fee Zumba classes that I teach on a regular basis. So those of you who have asked to donate to the class… NOW’S YOUR CHANCE! 🙂 Donations will be happily (and gratefully) accepted, but more than anything, I want to have a fun and exciting night of nonstop Zumba fun!! There will be new songs as well as many of your class favorites! So bring your friends and family and let’s show them what Zumba is all about!!! (The Santuck Zumba class will not meet on the Thursday of the Fiesta, 8/25. Please join us at Skate Zone! Only $5.00!!)
The second event I will be helping with is the “LET’S MOVE THE RIVER REGION” event being held in gyms and YMCAs across the tri-county area on Saturday, 8/27! This free Zumba class will be hosted at the Wetumpka Y, at 8:00am. AND it’s open to the public, not just YMCA members!!! I will be assisting the fabulous Christy Legleiter of YMCA Zumba fame by co-leading and teaching several songs! As with the Zumba Fiesta… BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY! Woohoo!!!
I think that’s it for now! Join me on Facebook and check out Zumba Wetumpka on YouTube to listen to our class playlist and to preview upcoming songs! There’s a link under the “Media” tab (above).
Until our next class…. ZUMBA LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!!!
GOOD NEWS!!! Due to an overwhelming response from enthusiastic Zumba fans all over the Wetumpka area, I will be starting a Zumba class at FBC IN WETUMPKA on Monday nights, beginning (prayerfully!) on August 15th! What a GREAT way to celebrate sending the kids back to school!! Get ready to PARTY!!
And for you college football fans, the timing is perfect for you as well… you’ll have a couple of weeks to get in shape before the fall tailgating season begins! Clear your Monday night schedules NOW… more DETAILS COMING SOON!!!
But wait… THERE’S MORE!! Later on in the fall (late September-early October), I should also have classes starting at Rumbling Waters Gym! Details are still in the works, but it looks like both of these new class opportunities are going to happen!
I am sooo excited to be able to offer more classes soon! The more Zumba the merrier! And hey, don’t forget to give me a holla if you want a Zumba Dance Party at your next Girls’ Night, birthday celebration, or other special event where a smokin’ hot party is MANDATORY! A Zumba Dance Party is guaranteed to make any occasion sizzle with fun and excitement that your guests will not soon forget! I also do ZumbAtomic Kids’ Parties! Contact me for more information and SPECIAL DISCOUNTED PRICING through December 31, 2011.
Let’s Get Ready to ZUUUUUMMMMMBBBAAAA!!!!!!!!
Zumba Love! ~Anne-Marie
We’ve been at it for two weeks now, and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had so much fun! You guys are so awesome!!! We won’t have Zumba class on Tuesday, July 19th and I’m sure I’ll be having withdrawals!
In the meantime, I hope you will take a few moments to give me some feedback regarding the Zumba class. I have attached the link to a brief, five-question quiz that will give me an idea of how the class is coming along. Your responses will be anonymous. Please also leave any comments you’d like to pass along in the “Comments” section. You may type in your name here if you want to. (It would be nice to have a few testimonials to share!)
Well, I am now going to focus on preparing for the Atlanta Dream halftime show tomorrow at the Phillips Arena. Please pray that I won’t have an attack of nerves!!! LOL!! I’ll post updates throughout the evening on the Zumba Wetumpka Facebook page.
See you on Thursday the 21st at 6:30 pm!!
One of the most frequent Zumba questions that I get has to do with what kind of shoes to wear to class. Here is the official word from Zumba Fitness, LLC:
“Zumba Fitness recommends that you wear ‘cross training’ or ‘aerobic’ style shoes. They provide the cushion and medial-lateral support needed for side-to-side movements. They also have low traction rubber for easy sliding and turning. Please be careful with ‘running shoes’ since they use a heavy tread on the bottom and are designed for forward movement.”
Our situation at Santuck is further complicated by having carpeted floors in the gym, which is not ideal for “easy sliding and turning”. So other than wearing my comfy old bedroom slippers, what choices does this leave me with? 🙂 Here are a few options that I have come up with that work well on carpeted floors:
CHOICE #1: Economy Option (“DUCK TAPE”)
Cost: $1 per roll
Believe it or not, I have a layer of tape across the soles of my cross-trainers! This gives just enough “slip” to allow me to turn and twist smoothly without undue stress on my knees or ankles. My heels are left untaped, which provides the traction needed not to slip too much! This way I can still put my old-but-still-supportive sneakers to good use. YAY!
Below you’ll see how I taped my shoes (which need to be re-taped soon… I’m wearing them out! LOL!)
Also, here’s a pic of all the colors the tape comes in for $3.40 per 20-ft roll at Wal-Mart:
CHOICE #2: $$ (“SLIP-ONS” or the new “ZUMBA CARPET GLIDERS”)
Cost: $15 a pair
Another option is to purchase a pair of “Slip-Ons”, sold online (Slip-Ons.net) and in dance stores. Zumba has also just revealed their own brand of “Zumba Carpet Gliders”, which will be available for purchase at the end of July. They are made to fit over running sneakers and allow for easy gliding on carpeted surfaces. (As I am ever loyal to Zumba Fitness, I will wait until they are available through www.Zumba.com and order them from there. I can order them in bulk at a small discount and have them available for our class to purchase from me. Saves money on shipping, too! Woo-hoo!)
CHOICE #3: $$$$$ Pricey Option (DANCE SNEAKERS)
The third choice is to purchase split-soled shoes specifically designed for dancing on a variety of surfaces. However, unless you have been trained in dance for years, these shoes may cause quite a bit of discomfort as they typically do not provide the average foot with enough arch support. (I tried several different brands and had to return them all because they hurt my feet and legs. Booo!)
So… what’s the best Zumba shoe choice for you? You now have several options that should fit any budget… YOU decide! See you in class!!!

Let me begin by saying that the debut Zumba classes this week have been UH-MAY-ZING!! This has been an incredible experience for me, and I’d like to thank everyone who came out to make the class such a huge success! But unfortunately, I now have the unpleasant duty of enforcing one of my rules, which I’m sure will make some people unhappy but it has to be done.
I received several complaints about the children in attendance on Thursday. A few people were worried about accidentally hitting them while dancing, and others expressed some very valid concerns about running into one of them, or tripping and falling over them as they ran around. Myoriginal stance was that children under the age of 10-12 years would not be allowed to attend, simply because their attention spans can’t handle an hour-long exercise class that is designed for adults. I did try to relax that rule just to see what would happen, and I must admit that even I was distracted by the extra noise and activity. And those poor moms! I’m certain that they could hardly achieve an effective workout while having to chase their children at the same time. 😦
So, since I am unable to provide child care (I am merely using Santuck’s space), I must ask all particpants to leave their little ones at home. To be consistent, I have even told my own daughter that she may no longer attend. My concern is for everyone’s safety, children and participants alike! Thank you for understanding!
BUT– I did mention that there is GOOD NEWS! Zumba does have a children’s program (called “Zumbatomic”) specifically designed for 4-to-12 year olds, and I am already lined up to get this specialty license! When I do, parents and children will be able to exercise together and enjoy the Zumba experience in an atmosphere more suitable for young children! Yippee!!!
Would you be interested in having a 30 to 45 minute children’s Zumbatomic class at Santuck? Take the poll below and let me know!! If there is enough interest, I will make it happen!! ZUMBA LOVE!!! ~Anne-Marie
The first one-hour Zumba class was held last night at Santuck Baptist Church in Wetumpka, and it was a blast!!! We had about 60 participants. Thanks to everyone who came out and helped to make the class such a success! I had so much fun, and I’m only a teensy bit sore!! 🙂 I hope to see all of you back each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:30pm in the CAC building!! ZUMBA!!!!
As requested, I have been looking for a place to teach Zumba in actual Wetumpka, and… *drumroll*… I might have found a location!! I won’t have the details for a few more weeks, but I am very excited about this new opportunity! By the time the kids are heading back to school, we will be kicking Zumba Wetumpka into high gear!!! Stay tuned for updates!!! 🙂
